Indonesia

Indonesia is a country with the longest sea-coast in the world. Hundreds of islands and islets are spread all over the area as large as Europe. The total area of this country is 1 919 440 km2 and with almost 24 million inhabitants it ranks on the fourth place in the world.

This is also the reason for a big variety of climates. Although all islands are located in the tropical zone, the western islands are very humid, often covered in exceptionally exuberant rain forest with a very big diversity of animal and plant species. The more to the east, the drier the climate gets and the vegetation is more and more scarce. Nevertheless, even on the eastern islands you can see many extremely interesting things . e.g. the Commodan dragons.

Regardless of the location, the vast majority of islands is surrounded by crystal-clear sea where one can dive as well as snorkel and watch the diverse life of coral cliffs. Probably everywhere except for the Bali island you can find intact coastal biotopes and enough calm for nature watching.

A special part of Indonesia is the New Guinea island – its western territory is part of Indonesia. In spite of a worse accessibility, esp. of the inland, nature of the New Guinea is a completely unforgettable experience. High mountains, intact primary forests with many endemical plant and animal species and also very specific customs of the native inahabitants are certainly worth the effort of travelling to this „end of the world“.
