Peru

If someone says Peru, most people immediately imagine the Incas´ Empire and the sights that are connected with this historical area. Peru is really a cradle of many ancien civilizations (out of which the Incas are the youngest one), but it is also a country of endless natural beauties.

Peru of these days is a country with an area of 1 285 220 km2 and more than 27 219 266 inhabitants (2005) who are justly proud of its rich history and countless natural beauties that you can admire here.

All its eastern part is covered by large areas of rain forests of the Peruvian Amazonia. You can find here several national parks – the most outstanding is probably the Manu national park. Here are also regions with the biggest diversity of plant and animal species in the world. Moreover, the eastern slopes of the Andas cover misty forests that are perhaps the least explored mainland ecosystems ever.

High mountains spread over the central part of the country, the dominant is the Huascarán national park. The vast area of Cordillera Blanca includes probably everything that belongs to the beauties of a high mountain region as well as very interesting and rare fauna and flora. Even here you can find trekking paths suitable for well-trained but also for occasional nature admirers.

Part of this country between the mountains and the Pacific ocean is a true opposite to the eastern part of Peru. There exist mainly desert and semi-desert ecosystems with very limited vegetation. Fauna is especially concentrated on the coast – sea birds and mammals.
