Africa

Africa is separated from Europe by the Mediterranean Sea, with Asia it is connected by the Suez isthmus. If you want to travel Africa from the north to the south, the journey will be about 8 000 km long!

Geographically, we can divide Africa into two zones – Northern Africa – it is maily composed of the former French colonies, esp. the territory of the Sahara Desert and to the north of it. The second zone, the Sub-Sharan Africa – is situated to the south of the most famous desert of the world. The Sub- Saharan Africa is further divided into three important parts:

• Sahel – on the southern edge of Sahara, it is area with a very dry climate (the annual amount of rainfall is less than 500 mm), we can find here a lot of steppes and savannahs
• Tropical Africa – also known as the Guinea region, it includes the states on the coast of the Guinea Bay, the equator meets here the prime meridian, the area is in the tropical zone, vegetation is mostly composed of rain forests. In this area three big African rivers flow into the sea – Niger, Volta and Kongo.
• The third area of the Sub-Saharan Africa contains the countries of South Africa: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagaskar, Malawi, Mauricius, Mozambik, Namibie, Republic of South Africa and others
