Characteristic

1 062 km²; Stripe of a flat landscape along the coast of the Indian Ocean. The only sanctuary bordering the sea. It offers a unique combination of both marine and mainland flora and fauna. Typical ecosystems: coastal and marine biotopes, wetlands, river biotopes, dry forest, savanna, mangroves, saline areas,sand dunes.

Best time to visit I-II and VI-VIII (the best game viewing)

Roads are sometimes impassable in IV-V.

Saadani Village is worth a visit as it used to be an important centre of the slave trade in the 19th century.
