National Parks of Mongolia

Itinerary of two weeks eco-touristic and photo-touristic journey to Mongolia - national parks and natural beauties, organized and offered by Albatros Travel and Expeditions.


Day 1

  • Arrival in Ulaanbaatar
  • Transfer to the Hotel
  • Stay in the hotel

Day 2

  • Breakfast,
  • Drive to Khustain Nuruu National Park, where herds of wild horse Przevalskii are re-acclimatizing since 1991,
  • 120 km and 2-3 hours driving
  • Lunch in restaurant at the national park,
  • Visit natural museum displaying about wild horses and the national park area including flora and fauna,
  • Free time,
  • In the evening cool wild horses come to the spring and lower hills.
  • Explore wild horses,
  • Dinner, Stay in Ger camp Khustai

Day 3

  • Breakfast, 
  • Drive to Mongol Els sand dunes / local name is Elsen tasarhai dunes/ /210 km & 5-6 hours driving,
  • Lunch,
  • Visit to horse breeder's family to explore the nomadic lifestyle and to have talking with nomads about their life and tradition,
  • There is nice chance to try Mongolian national drink-Airag-fermented mare's milk and other milk products,
  • Explore daily activities of local people,
  • 1 hour horseback riding,
  • Walking on sand dunes,
  • Dinner,
  • Stay overnight in the camp Mongol Altai

Day 4

  • Breakfast, 
  • Drive to Khara Khorin town, where developed Khara Khorum capital of Great Mongolian Empire in 13-th century, /110 km and 2 hours driving/, 
  • Lunch,
  • Explore Erdene Zuu Monastery Museum - First Biggest Buddhist Center in medieval ages and it was closed and badly damaged in1930's,
  • Explore Turtle rock on the south hill,
  • Visit to Monument of Great Empires,
  • Visit to Archealogical excavation site,
  • Dinner-Mongolian Cuisine-Barbecue picnic,
  • Stay overnight in tourist camp Khara Khorum

Day 5

  • Breakfast,
  • Drive to Tovkhon temple in mountainous area /80 km-2 hours/,
  • The temple is located in Khangain Nuruu National park.
  • It was built on the top of the mountain. Walking up - Easy Hiking visit to Peak of Mountain,
  • After lunch hiking to small cave called mother belly,
  • Soft hiking to peak of hill with stupa, where the surrounding nature view looks fascinating,
  • Dinner,
  • Stay in tourist camp Tovkhon

Day 6

  • Breakfast,
  • Drive to Orkhon waterfall, /110 km and 5 hours driving in lava rocky road/, 
  • Free time - There is nice chance to photograph yak herds and explore how the local people are taking care for yaks and milk yaks,
  • Lunch , 
  • Walking to Orkhon waterfall and small waterfall with many fish,
  • Free time,
  • Dinner,
  • Stay in Silver waterfall tourist camp

Day 7

  • Breakfast,
  • Drive to ancient deer monuments and complex of graves dated to III.B.C.
  • Drive to Ongi Buddhist Temple ruins /310 km/,
  • On the way lunch picnic,
  • Visit to Ongi temple ruins damaged by communist people by 1937-1939,
  • Dinner,
  • Stay overnight in ger tourist camp Ongi

 

 

Day 8

  • Breakfast, 
  • This day driving distance is 310 km and it takes 8-9 hours driving,
  • Drive to Bayanzag Flaming cliffs, where dinosaur fossils were found in 1922, later its dimension was used in Jurassic Park movie,
  • Explore the Saxaul forest -Gobi native tree - in Gobi steppe,
  • Box lunch near cool spring in open air,
  • Driving in Gobi steppe to Khongor picturesque sand dunes with width of 150 km and 300 m height,
  • Rest in tourist camp Juulchin Gobi-2,
  • Dinner,
  • Stay overnight in Ger tourist camp

 

 

Day 9

  • Breakfast,
  • Hiking to sand dunes and enjoy with skiing down from dunes,
  • Explore the fascinating view of sand hills and rocky mountain ranges,
  • Trekking to cool spring near the sand hills,
  • Lunch at the tourist camp,
  • Visit local camel breeder family to discover the Gobi lifestyle and try diary products from camel milk,
  • 1 hour camelback trekking along sand dunes, neighboring to big mountain ranges,
  • Dinner,
  • Stay overnight in Juulchin Gobi-2 Ger camp

Day 10

  • Breakfast,
  • Driving to Yollun Gorge in mountainous area for 180 km /5-6 hours/,
  • On the way explore wild ass and herd of gazelles in Khavtsgait valley,
  • Visit the beautiful Eagle Gorge in Gurvan Saikhan Mt,
  • Trekking and photographing spectacular high cliff walls, wild animals such as eagle and wild sheep, glacier,
  • At opening of the valley is a Local Natural History Museum displaying interesting information about the animals of the area,
  • Visit the museum "Three Beauties of Gobi",
  • Dinner,
  • Stay overnight in Juulchin gobi-2 Ger tourist camp

Day 11

  • Breakfast,
  • Drive to Middle Gobi.
  • Box lunch on the way.
  • Explore Baga Gazarin Chuluu which has amazing natural formations of granite rock resembling a city skyline.
  • Explore rock paintings,...
  • Picnic dinner.
  • Stay in the camp

 Day 12

  • Breakfast
  • Drive to Ulaanbaatar - 260 km (5-6 hours)
  • Box lunch on the way
  • Transfer to the hotel
  • Dinner
  • Stay in hotel

Day 13

  • Breakfast,
  • City tour including visits to Gandantegchilen Monastery- Present biggest monastery, which houses for giant standing Buddha statue,
  • National History Museum gives you real insight into Mongolian origin and history,
  • Lunch,
  • Natural History Museum offers nice chance to see petrified dinosaur skeletons and nestled eggs,
  • Visit main Square Sukhbaatar, Friendship Monument on Zaisan hill,
  • Free time for shopping the main street shops, art shops and antique shops,
  • National Folk Performance Concert with songs and contortion acts,
  • Dinner,
  • Stay in hotel

Day 14

  • Breakfast,
  • Free day, 
  • Transfer to the airport,
  • Departure
